This is some BS

This is a comment to post in the ether.
When I purchased my nest thermostat controller several years ago, I expected to have the amazing connectivity from that point on, or until the device failed due to common component failure. Now I am informed that my thermostat will function without connectivity starting in October 2025. I’m assuming they have made a decision to discontinue supporting the device I purchased that is fully functional at the time of posting this complaint. I am stating here and now that because I spent extra money at the time that was difficult to purchase due to lean income, for a device that has performed well, and still performs well, I will not be purchasing the newer version of nest because of the bogus push to pull more funds from me in a less than moral manner. I was going to purchase a new one for my new home that I’ve been working on in the near future, but am now persuaded by this decision to forgo that decision and will use a dumb thermostat instead. Not only have I decided to not invest in smart thermostat’s, but the idea of investing in any smart that requires network connectivity is now a no-go. Thank you nest for making this decision as easy as you could.
Very sincerely,

I absolutely agree with your statement but will add the following comments!

1: When I bought my 3 Nest thermostats there was no notice of a manufactured lifetime.

2: Just how many Nest thermostats are out there that will now require replacement and dumping the electronics into landfill or e-waste piles! I consider this criminal in behalf of Google.

3: Now Google either expects me to buy another 3 thermostats for a huge new investment that I and certainly most other Nest thermostat owners don't need OR when I wake up at 3:00am and need to adjust the thermostat in another part of the house I have to get up and wake up enough to go and change it.

4: I have my Nest thermostats registered with Ohm Hour which means I make cash for supporting my local electric grid in high use times. If Google takes this away I will not be able to do this anymore.😥

5: The features on my current Nest thermostats are 100% sufficient for my needs. I don't want to be forced into 3 new thermostats with "enhanced" features just because Google wants to make even more money off of me.

Is there anyone who can help us make Google reverse this awful decision?

I wouldn’t know who to speak with about this. They said that those of us that are contending with this issue would receive an email for a discounted upgrade to the gen 4. Still, extracting money from my pocket for an item that doesn’t need replacing. Part of the point I was making is that had I known from the start that I would have to replace a functional WiFi thermostat every several years, I may have not considered the cost of the one I own. It has been very convenient to use my phone in order to adjust the status of my home temperature. I don’t think it is as important if this is how they’re doing business with us. So, I’ll stick with what I have and adjust accordingly. Free enterprise I suppose. I won’t be doing business with them again though.

Agreed and u have lost a customer for life! Screw u guys for forcing us to buy a newer version with 50% off. That is over $100 right now and I will be not having anything to do with Nest.
