Use Nest as Traditional Timer & Thermostat

KenBuchanan

Hi,

I have a holiday let which is occupied about 50% of the time. Up till now I had a traditional timer & thermostat.

The timer never changed and the thermostat would be varied by guests / cleaners. The only problem was me (hundreds of miles away) knowing what was set. So I bought Nest.

It seems to me that the only way I can set what is required between guests being there and no-one there is to completely over-write the schedule at each change, which is going to be tedious. Is there any way to preserve a schedule and (separately) adjust the temperature. Assuming not, is there any way to store schedule data (like a profile)? I know that I can copy a day and paste it (luckily!), but there will be times when I will need to set every day of the week to "no-one/someone there"  and then set it back again which means starting from scratch.

Any hints gratefully received.

When you have guests set the thermostat to run the schedule.  The schedule will always kick in regardless of manual settings.  So if during the day if you or a guest sets the temp to 75°F / 24°C, then whenever the next scheduled time hits it will switch to that temperature. When you don't have guests set a permanent hold to hold the temp.  As long as there is wi-fi you can control it remotely.

OK, thanks.

Is there any way to store the "guests staying" schedule so I don't have to recreate the whole thing?

Thanks

There is only one schedule.

This is how I would approach it...

Create THE schedule that you want to use when the unit is occupied.  When it's not occupied hold the temperature to ECO preset.

Ah, sounds good. Although I have a learnign thermostat which I don't think does "hold" I think I can use Eco to achieve the same thing.

Someone is in right now so I can't test it but I will.

Many thanks,

Ken

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I just want to check if you were able to set an Eco temperature on your Nest Learning Thermostat. How does it go?

I appreciate your help, sporfrog.

Best,
Jenelyn

Hello KenBuchanan,

Awesome! We're glad to hear that it was sorted out. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread within 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

Regards,
