There is currently a power outage in my area and everything I have read so far says that the thermostat should still work, but I can't manually set the temperature. I just get a E195 error which means no power, which makes sense. My wire layout is just R and W, no C. Should I still be able to use the thermostat?

Hi _David_,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. The Nest Thermostat E has a built-in battery. If the wires weren't able to provide power to your thermostat it will use its built in battery to run your system temporarily. If the battery is drained, it will lead your thermostat to shut down.
Best,
Jenelyn

Jenelyn, I understand that there is a battery in the thermostat as it was the thermostat was giving me the error. I couldnt get out of menu on thermostat so that I could not set the temperature. I should of taken a picture to better explain it. Hopefully this doesnt happen again

Hi there,
Gotcha. Nest Thermostat will still give you the screen, but it will not allow you to change the temperature or have access to your Settings since there's no power coming from your HVAC system due to power outage. The Nest Thermostat will only allow you to control it once the power comes back.
Thanks,
Jenelyn
