WHY IS MY NEST THERMOMETER ONLY READING 76 DEGREES??

I am 40 miles away from my Nest Thermometer 3 that was installed 7 days ago.

I thought the ECO setting was supposed to help KEEP ENERGY costs down.

But now I see the ONLY setting is 76 degrees??

(Admittedly, I see why everybody hates this product)

How do I know from a distance, using my Apps (Google Home or Nest ??) what the actual temperature is in my home? Is that too much to ask from a “smart” thermometer? (I’m sensing it is). Thanks..

Hi patti4040,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

Trying to maximize savings with your Nest thermostat’s eco mode is a really important feature; customizing it’s settings is key to achieving this. Let’s see what your options are.

What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Eco temperatures will affect your system behavior according to the “heat to” or "cool to” temperature you’ve set. Here’s how you can change these settings.

If you have a Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd generation or earlier) or Nest Thermostat E:

  • Press your thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  • Select Settings>Eco.
  • Select the temperature you want. If your thermostat controls heating, you’ll see “Heat to.” If it controls cooling, you’ll also see “Cool to.”
  • Press the thermostat ring to select the temperature you want to change. Turn the ring to adjust, then press again to set.

The temperature range in which you can set the eco mode is 40-70°F for heating and 76-90°F for cooling mode. There’s also the option to choose off in the temperature range, in which the thermostat won’t turn on heating or cooling unless your home reaches your set safe temperature.

You can check all of these settings alongside the current temperature in your home by opening either the Google Home app or the Nest app and tapping on your thermostat on the home screen.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.
