The thermostat has been working for over a year. We left town for a week came back. The screen is dark. There’s no way to get it started

Hi DBeavers,

Thank you for reaching out! I understand that your Nest's screen is completely dark after returning from a short trip, and there is no way to power it on. No worries, I’ll be happy to help you to resolve this situation.

To provide you with the most accurate troubleshooting steps, please share the following information:

  • What is the model of your Nest Thermostat? Here’s a helpful article about how to identify the model of your device.
  • Have you received any error messages or codes on the thermostat or in the app?
  • What app do you use to control your thermostat?
  • Are the power breakers on, and is your home receiving power?

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Carefully remove the thermostat's display and check for bent connector pins.
  • Verify that the thermostat wires are securely connected and all buttons are pressed down.
  • Plug the Nest Thermostat to a dedicated USB cable, and check that you get any light blinking light at the top.

Additionally, you can check out this article for more troubleshooting steps: Troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on.

I look forward to your answer and together we’ll find the solution.

Regards,

Humberto
