When setting up Nest Thermostat E it stays on Home icon. What do I do other than restart?

I've tried resetting my device, charging via USB cable, resetting system, restripping wires (with system off of course) and all I get is the Home icon.
Previously it was flashing orange then flashing green and frozen on home icon.

I've never connected this device to wifi. It's over a year old and has been sitting in a closet since I bought my house since it didn't work on first install either. Thanks to covid I haven't had any professional look at it. Can't really afford anyway so would like to try and see if I can troubleshoot first.

My old/original thermostat works just fine thanksfully.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

Hi Hillory,

Sorry to hear about your Nest E setup issues! That's frustrating to run into installation hiccups. I'm happy to look into this issue for you.

It's possible that while your Nest E was sitting in its box, its internal battery depreciated (as long-term storage and battery life don't tend to mix very well, and can cause battery acid leakage/device damage). Does your thermostat use a USB charging cable or has replaceable batteries?

Meanwhile, I would also try connecting your device to WiFi to receive the full capacity of its features. Is there a step you're getting stuck on while setting it up? Do you also have the Google Home and Nest app downloaded to your phone?

Can you also try out the following to see if it helps?

1.Remove and re-do the wires
Please turn off the power to your HVAC system and remove and reseat all of the wires.
Make sure that the wire coming out of the terminal is as flush as possible with the base.
Turn the power back on and reattach the display to the base.

2.Perform a battery disconnect
Remove the display from the base.
Hard restart the thermostat.
With the display off the base, wait for the Nest to turn back on and display "Please attach the display to its base."
Press the display for three seconds and release it.
After the 3 second hold, the display should then read, "Nest is restarting back in a bit."

If none of the above steps resolve the issue:
Please use a micro USB cable to connect the thermostat to a computer, your computer recognizes the thermostat. If this happens. Let me know so I can create a case for you.
Let me know how it goes.

Let us know how it goes. We're here to help!

Hi tarunttk,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for the delay.

If dong a restart is not doing anything, let's try to remove the Nest Thermostat from the base, try to charge it using a USB and if possible, do a complete reset on your thermostat.

I hope it helps.

Best regards,

Ryan
