Why can I not lower the heat temperature setting below 50 deg? I live in Ohio. This time of year, it is hot during the day and cold at night. I am traveling for the next few months and I want to have the thermoset set to heat/cool and temps at 40 deg for heat and 80 deg for cool. I don't want to turn it off to activate eco 40 deg. Why place a limit. Does google think I'm too stupid to manage my home's temperature myself? The pipes will not be in danger of bursting until outside temperatures are sustained below 15-20 deg a few days. Water freezes at 32. Annoying and insulting. Also, costing me money. I searched for how to change this and see many other people with the same complaint. Update the settings Google. Listen to your customers.

Set your safety temperatures to 40F / 80F respectively and then set the thermostat to off. Here is a Google support article on setting the safety temperatures.

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned in my post, I am aware of this feature, however, it does not address the need to have the air conditioner on during the day when it is hot. I want to keep the house from being above 80 deg while I'm away for various reasons. Still looking for Google to update the feature.

Hi boggsdaryl,
Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the Safety Temperature setting on your thermostat.Safety Temperatures are designed to prevent your home from freezing or overheating by automatically turning on heating or cooling, even when the thermostat is set to Off. However, it seems like the temperature range you're trying to set is outside the available options. Please share your feedback, We'd love to hear your thoughts on this feature and how we can improve it.
Let me know if you have any questions.
