About 8 hours ago my Nest thermostat lost power because the AC’s drain line was clogged, and when water in the pan backed up it tripped the safety switch. I know this happened overnight because I woke up to a blazing hot house and my Nest thermostat screen was blank, but when I opened the app it said it lost power “about 8 hours ago.”
Why, if it knew it lost power, didn’t it send me an alert or an email? This was a feature before Google bought Nest (I know because I’ve owned three generations of the thermostat and live in a very hot climate where our AC goes out every few years for this same reason); why were these notifications removed? If the app can recognize and display a message that power was lost at a certain time, why not send an alert about it? This seems like a very basic function of a smart thermostat.
