Hi,
We used to have central air for cooling and oil furnace with forced hot water baseboards for heat. Last year we replaced our central air conditioner with a heat pump. I have had difficulty getting a clear answer on my options for configuring the nest to control two separate heating sources.
What are my options for configuring nest learning thermostat (3rd gen) with a heat pump and an oil furnace with force hot water heat. At a minimum, I want the oil furnace to be available for backup (manually triggered). If possible, it would be nice to automatically switch over in certain conditions.
Heat pump: Y1, G, O/B, Rc, C (these are connected to nest and it's working great for heating and cooling)
What are my options for connecting the oil system with two wires: R, W

Hi cplewis,
Thanks for posting. For the R and W wires, these should be connected to the Nest Learning Thermostat's base as R to RH terminal and W to W1 terminal, respectively.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Zoe
