The 2S wires are for a remote sensor that you will not need with this nest. So basically you got a five wire solution. And it looks like you have a heat pump. It looks like you have a white wire on auxiliary heat, and a blue wire on your emergency heat.

Thank you!

So where would I put the emergency heat if there is already a wire going in the o/b slot on the old thermostat?

Use the nest install ion app and list your wires as:

Rc

O/B

G

Y

Aux

E.
the installation configuration tool will set up the nest thermostat software and tell where to put each wire.

I would be curious to see the air handler to check how the Auxiliary versus the Emergency are configured. Some older thermostats use an E (emergency) Heat linked to the same Auxiliary Heat strips.  The difference is the heat
Pump is not activated.  In emergency mode the blower fan and the heat strips are activated.

Your current thermostat is only compatible with the Nest Thermostat E if you don't use the blue wire connected to the E terminal. I would check the terminal block on the control board in the furnace/air handler and verify if the blue wire is, in fact, connected to the E terminal. If it isn't, you can then use it to create a C wire.

Give this wiring a try.

Black - S to Not Used

Brown - S to Not Used

Yellow - Y to Y1

Green - G to G

Orange - O/B to */OB

White - AUX to W1 (set as AUX Heat)

Blue - E to Not Used

Red - R to R

If you find that the Blue wire is connected to the E terminal at the furnace/air handler end and you want to have the option of using the Emergency Heat function, then you will need the Nest 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat.

hey everyone thank you for your help, I got everything wired up and it seems to work except the nest dies in about a day then I have to plug it in. Is there something wrong with the nest itself or is there another issue that I’m not aware of?

Nick,

since you no longer require the two wires being used for the sensors,  (S), then I would suggest repurposing one of those two wires as the common that will assist in keeping the thermostat charged up. This will require you to have access to the air handler. Turn the power off to the air handler.. Then find that black wire for example, disconnect it from the cable going outside, locate the C terminal on the air handler‘s integrated control board, attach the black wire to the C terminal. Then go to the Nest thermostats, remove the display, locate the black wire and insert it to the C terminal. Turn power to air handler back on.

If you are not getting heat, then what you probably have is what they call a B model heat pump. In which case you must energize the OB wire to get heat. Your system defaults to being a cooling system, and must therefore have the reversing valve energized, using the OB wire in order to get heat. There is a setting in the thermostat of the equipment where you can change the function of the reversing valve.

@mdphill

you need to start over and open your own thread to report your problem or ask for some help. You’re posting in somebody else’s thread right now, and that’s not proper procedure. When you open up your request for assistance, do yourself a favor, upload the pictures of the old thermostat, and as it was wired, upload a picture of your Nest, back plate, showing how you have it currently wired.
