My nest thermostat was blinking red after recharging.  We put it back on the main control and now the screen is just black.   Please help.

Hello Mary-B,

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat that won't turn on. Let's jump in and get it back to life!

A power-related issue, incorrect installation or wire setup, or an unstable Wi-Fi connection are some of the possible reasons why your thermostat has a low battery life.

To isolate:

  • When did the issue first occur?
  • Is this a newly installed thermostat?
  • If the thermostat was recently installed, what is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  • Share with us a photo of your thermostat's wiring.

Give these steps a whirl:

  1. Check that the power from your HVAC system at the breaker box is turned on.
  2. Ensure that the wires are connected properly (with no loose or exposed wires).
  3. Inspect the thermostat display and its base to see if any connector pins are bent.
  4. Charge the thermostat display for an hour before plugging it back into its base.
  5. Look for any reports in the Equipment settings.
  6. Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info settings.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark
