Wrong outside temperature on Nest thermostat

DaveILL
Community Member

The farsight on my Nest thermostat is set to display the outside temperature. It is currently showing 84 F, but the actual outside temperature is 62 F. I verified my address in the app is correct. I verified the temperature on weather.com for my location does not match what the thermostat is displaying.

There is no Location setting on the actual thermostat (i.e., there is no Location menu in the settings of the physical device). The thermostat software was last updated 5/3/2022 with version 6.2-27.

How can I get this to display the correct outside temperature?

I think I figured it out. It looks like the thermostat was getting its location syncing from the Home app instead of the Nest app. It was set correctly in the Nest app, but the Home app had it blank. After setting it in the Home app and resetting the thermostat, the displayed weather was correct.

The nest thermostat initially takes the information from your smart phone and uses that to set the Geo location for the weather information and the outdoor temperature.

Like I said, the Nest app on my phone is configured with the correct location. My phone is in the same location. Why is the thermostat showing the weather for a different location?

Your reply did not specify this, not did it tell me how to correct the issue.

Hi folks,

@CoolingWizard, thanks for your assistance.

@DaveILL, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the weather shown information on your Nest Thermostat. I understand the settings can be confusing, but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Please give these steps a try:

  1. Tap and hold your Nest Thermostat screen for 10 seconds to restart.
    1. Update the "Date and Time" if being asked.
  2. If the weather is still inaccurate for your location, remove the Nest Thermostat from the Nest App.
  3. Under Reset settings. Reset the Account Connection setting on your Nest Thermostat device.
  4. Then, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network under Network settings.
  5. Once connected, proceed to add it to the Nest App. Here's your guide on how to add the device.

Let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Thanks,

Mark

I followed all of those instructions, and the problem still persists. The weather on the thermostat is showing over 20 degrees higher than my home's location. And yes, my phone is also at home with me, and yes, I verified weather.com is reporting the correct information for my location.
