Imagine my surprise when my Nest thermostat would no longer connect to wifi to discover that it had been intentionally disabled on your end. This can only be seen as a money grab, trying to force customers to by another Nest thermostat to get wifi connectivity back. I will never buy another Google home product again if they are going to be arbitrarily bricked. If you are going to discontinue support, fine, just don't sabotage my $275 product that was working just fine.

100% agree here. Same, can't connect to my perfectly good thermostat anymore, because somebody wanted more money from me. Ecobee is supposed to be really good. And half the price of Nest Ripoff.

Any suggestions which ecobee to get? I don't understand the difference between Essential and Advanced (or whatever they're called)
And yes I'm using the Nest chatroom to ask this question, purely out of spite...

I'm curious to know if this is what happened to mine. All of a sudden it will not connect to wifi. No rhyme or reason and I've tried all the troubleshooting. How were you able to determine this is what happened to yours?

This post was found on the support thread. It pretty much tells the tale. Copy and paste:
Upcoming end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen)
As we look at what it takes to support your energy needs going forward, it has become increasingly challenging to continue to update these products given the early hardware. So we made the difficult decision that starting October 25, 2025, Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011), Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012), and Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014) will no longer receive software updates. You will no longer be able to control them remotely from your phone or with Google Assistant, but can still adjust the temperature and modify schedules directly on the thermostat.

Thank you for sharing this information. We have a Nest Generation 2 and I have been trying to find out why it was offline in the app.. Google should have at least offered a discounted replacement.

Not sure where you are. But Ontario makes it super easy to collect your smart thermostat rebate. Apply on government website, you get a promo code in email, promo code was good for $75 off at bestbuy.ca. just worked for me for a ecobee Enhanced. Thumbs up!

Absolute rip off, why would I buy another Nest product?
Buy a device you can control via WiFi, no indication it would only work so long. Ok do dont support future updates, but why remove functionality via WiFi altogether?
