eco mode switching to heat temp preset when in cooling mode

My thermostat is set to cooling mode (not heat+cool) and my eco setting is set to 82 degrees (in heating mode, eco is set to 56 degrees.) i set a temp hold at night that was a couple of degrees lower than usual due to extreme humidity and for the second time in a month, I have woken up to my house cold and my nest set at 56 degrees rather than 82 degrees with system set to cooling. I have checked all of my presets and that i am in cooling mode, and everything checks out correctly.  Why is my nest switching to the eco mode heat preset when in cooling mode?

Hi KSG1,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. I'd like to know more about it. A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. Do you see any messages or codes on your thermostat or in the app? Please check your thermostat power readout.

You can follow the guide below:

Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

Nest Thermostat 2020:

  1. Open the Google Home app and then tap the thermostat and then tap Settings .
  2. Select the Device Information.
  3. Choose Technical Information.

Also, please check your thermostat Energy History. It might help you see what your thermostat was doing previously. You can visit this support article on how to check Energy History in the thermostat or in the Nest app.

Hi Jocelyn,
I have the basic Nest thermostat. My software version is 1.3-10. The energy dashboard shows almost no energy usage on most days, then a spike up to the second line (units aren't indicated on graph) for two hours on the days I had the problem. I thought it was on eco mode at those times, but it was actually on comfort mode. The cooling temp was set at 80, and the heating temp was set at 56 degrees. The thermostat is set to cooling mode. I would wake up in the morning to the thermostat running and the target temp set at 56.  I changed the heating temp to as high as it would go, but the same situation recurred, despite the fact that we are not using the heat mode.  I created a custom preset in the morning with heating set to 77 and cooling set to 81, but the thermostat would still switch to 56 degrees in the early morning.  I no longer have 56 in any of my preset temp preferences. So last week we just decided to turn off the thermostat unless it gets too hot and use it as needed, which kind of defeats the purpose of having it.. Eco set at 70/82, sleep set at 65/80 and I'm not using the comfort setting which is set at 65/80. How can the thermostat reset itself to a temp independently? Running the a.c. at 56 degrees erases the savings we are getting by keeping the house warm!
