Hi cyberslueth,
Thanks for posting. Follow these steps to remove your Nest Thermostat from the wall plate.
- Turn off the power at the breaker box.
- Gently remove the thermostat display from the wall plate, revealing the wiring connections behind it.
- Disconnect the wires from the terminal screws on the back of the thermostat, taking note of wire labels or taking a picture of the wiring configuration for future reference.
- Disconnect the wires and remove the wall plate from the wall, typically attached with screws. Unscrew them and lift the plate off the wall, revealing the mounting holes.
- To install a new thermostat, follow the instructions here in the beginner's guide to the Nest Thermostat and keep the wall plate and screws in a safe place if you plan to reinstall the Nest Thermostat later.
Remember, if you're unsure or uncomfortable with handling electrical components, it's advisable to seek help from a professional HVAC technician. They have the expertise to safely install and remove your thermostat.
Let us know if that helps.
Best,
Zoe
