my thermostat keeps turning off to save battery

My 3rd gen nest was installed 1 year ago and worked fine to start with.   Now I want to use it again to control heating it keeps saying it needs to turn off to save battery. I have charged with another cable for 2 hours and nothing has changed. When using another cable, the green light flashes and it soon says connect to base, I do so with original cable, then red light flashes again. Sometimes I can get dial to work to put heat on or off but other times I cannot  get anything to show on dial.  The wi-fi also does not work nor does the screen show the temp when someone is near. Presume these are all battery saving techniques.   Is this a faulty base?   Can anyone  shed any light on this please?

Hello @heawoo60

Thank you for reaching out to our Nest Community. I apologize for this incontinence with the Nest Thermostat's battery. Don't worry, I'd be happy to help you with this situation.

I fully understand this situation. Let me give you a hand.

  • Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • Could you share with me the information you can find on Settings > Technical Info > Power?

With these details, we can have a clearer idea of the reason for this situation.

Feel free to keep posting, and we'll work to find a solution for you.
Best regards,

Douglas.
