nest thermostat shows as offline on nest hub display

i installed a Nest thermostat and downloaded the Google Home App. i also installed some smart light bulbs. everything connect to wi-fi with out any issues, i can control all the lights and the thermostat through the App on my phone. then i added a Google Nest Hub and it connected to Wifi no problem. with the hub i can control the lights and interact with google.  assistant , play music, everything except control the Nest Thermostat. I get a message on the Hub screen that the thermostat is off line. i have reinstalled both the thermostat and the hub and still have the same issues
