nest thermostat

Hi

my heat is not kicking in on the nest thermostat that was already installed into my unit. It has been working for years but has not been working recently. The air works but no heat. Not sure what to do.

I do not have the nest app. Im not sure if I should download it as I was not the one who installed this unit and not sure how to connect my particular device to the app?

I am not good with these sorts of things. Help?

Hi cindeeshin,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that your heat is not working recently. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  1. Are you located in North America or Europe?
  2. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  3. Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?
  4. What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
  5. When did heating last work?
  6. Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?
    • Did you recently turn off any breakers?
    • Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?
    • Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?
  7. Did you select the correct fuel type?
  8. Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board? If yes, locate the light.
  9. When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
  10. Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?
  11. Is this the first notable temperature drop of the year in the area?

Also, gather the power readouts of your thermostat's Battery, VOC, VIN, and lIN under Settings > Technical Info > Power if you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, and gather the VIN, IIN, and PS-* under Settings > Equipment > Power Info if you have the Nest Thermostat 2020.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe
