thermostat does not hold temp

this is one of the most frustrating pieces of technology that i have ever owned, and i am a senior software engineer, so i have dealt with a lot of frustrating technologies in my lifetime. i am very sensitive to temperature and i live in an environment where the temperature can fluctuate 40 degrees in a day and i am home 99% of the time. every day, multiple times a day, i will start to feel uncomfortable, too hot or too cold. i look at my phone and surprise surprise, the current temperate is outside of the range that i have set. this thing refuses to turn on until it gets a couple degrees past what i want. most of the time i end up manually adjusting the band so it will kick on. then, it wont shut off until its a couple degrees past my desired temperature, making me uncomfortable in the other direction. i have disabled every smart feature because i know what temp i want. the thermostat refuses to respect the temperatures i set. unbelievably frustrating. yes, i saw the article about maintenance band. i understand the intention is to save energy and prolong the life of the hvac system. i do not care about that at all, what i need is for my thermostat to turn on when it detects the temp is outside the range i set and turn off when its inside of the range. its really really simple. without this basic functionality, this thing is beyond useless, its aggravating and makes me want to avoid everything you guys make. please fix this issue.

Hi @jarrettc,

Thank you for reaching out to our support community! I understand your extreme frustration with our thermostat's performance, especially given your sensitivity to temperature fluctuations and your extensive experience as a senior software engineer. I sincerely apologize that our product has fallen so short of your expectations and caused you such discomfort.

Based on this information, I'd like to ask you more about this concern. I'm here to assist you further!

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • What is the software version of your Nest Thermostat?
  • Have you tried resetting the thermostat to factory settings and reconfiguring it?
  • You mentioned disabling all smart features. Are there any specific features you found particularly problematic or unnecessary?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo
