thermostat heat stops

We have 6 Google Nest thermostats and randomly this season, it quits sending a signal to the furnace to heat and our homes have significantly dropped temps. One house we were away and it went down to 40 degrees. A tenant today tells me it's 60 and it was set at 75. Initially thought the one house's thermostat was going bad but not after it happening at literally 4 houses across a period of 5 months. They are all within 2-3 years old.

Hello @lottis

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with your six Nest Thermostats, as this season, they have randomly stopped sending signals to the furnaces, causing temperatures in your homes to drop significantly. I appreciate the details shared that in one home the temperature dropped to 40° while you were away. Additionally, a tenant reported a temperature of 60° despite the thermostat being set to 75°. I understand how difficult this situation can be due to realizing that the same issue occurs in most of your homes. No worries; it's a pleasure to assist you.

To provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps, please answer the following questions:

  • Can you confirm what models of Nest Thermostat you have? For your reference, I suggest consulting this article: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • Have you experienced any power outages within the last few days or weeks?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel

Sorry for the delay.

Model Thermostat 1.4

No error messages

Seems to be very random among the properties that we have them. They are not in the same area and are even spread across 3 different states

No power outages either

Hey @lottis

Thank you for keeping me updated. Regarding the situation, let’s perform some troubleshooting steps:

Disable the Home & Away Routines and Home/Away Assist settings.

Open the Google Home app > Tap Automations > Home or Away > select the thermostat action > tap Remove action > Save.

If you have schedules configured, try to delete them.

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap on your thermostat icon.
  • Tap the Schedules icon (it looks like a calendar/clock).
  • You will see the days of the week. To stop the thermostat from following a schedule, you have two options:
  • Delete individual blocks: Tap a specific temperature block, then select Delete.
  • Clear the whole day: You can remove all set points so the thermostat stays at one temperature until you manually change it.

After that, keep an eye on it to see if the behavior persists. Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Daniel
