i’ve been using my nest since the summer and so far LOVE it! just had a question about the temperature changes when setting a schedule - if i were to want eco to be at 65° until 5pm where comfort is at 72°, do i need to add an event between temperature changes so it’s not using unnecessary energy to heat a 7° change? or will it gradually heat itself between the change?

Hey amham,

Welcome to the Google Nest Community! It's awesome to hear that you're loving your Nest Thermostat! To your question, the Nest Thermostats are designed to be energy-efficient, so you don't necessarily need to add an extra event between temperature changes in your schedule.

When you set a schedule with a temperature change, the thermostat will work to reach the desired temperature by the specified time. It does take into consideration the time it has and will adjust the heating or cooling output accordingly. So, in your case, if you want it to go from 65°F to 72°F by 5 p.m., the thermostat will gradually adjust the temperature to make it a smooth transition, minimizing unnecessary energy usage.

Feel free to experiment and monitor your energy usage through the Nest app to see how it adapts to your schedule. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Enjoy the comfort and energy savings!

Warm regards,
Mark
