Hi

I’m after a little advice if possible. I’m struggling with Wi-fi upstairs at the moment and I’ve settled on Nest as my best option. I have a cable running from a downstairs switch to an upstairs switch so have some things hardwired in but the wifi signal is quite poor.

Would this setup work in theory.

Downstairs
Modem (Lan) -> (Wan) Nest Router (Lan) -> Switch ->

Upstairs
->Switch -> (Lan) Nest Router?

If I was to add a Point to the setup would I have to run it from the initial router downstairs or could I run it from the upstairs one?

Appreciate the help.

Thanks
Mark

Hello Mark Griffiths 2281,

Yes, you can connect a secondary Nest WiFi Router back to the primary via Ethernet. Here's a help page with more details on that: https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/7215624?hl=en

However, the wired secondary Nest WiFi Router won't act like an intermediary for a more distant mesh-only Nest WiFi Point in any way that would be useful. It will work best if it's close enough to the primary Nest WiFi Router to get a strong 5GHz connection directly from it – typically one or two rooms away at most.
