3rd Nest access point won't connect - europe purchase vs intial canada purchase

Bachirm

Hello,

I have a nest wifi setup at home, 1 routeur + 2 access points, purchased in Canada. I needed a stronger network so I purchased an additionnal access point from Europe. It won't connect to the mesh, although detected and added to home app. It fails at the last step when trying to join the mesh network.

Are there any geography compatibility issue? Is there a work around ?

Thank you

Mixing units manufactured for different countries increases your chance of issues and it's definitely not supported by Google. The 5 GHz band is regulated differently around the world. Nest Wifi units manufactured for use in the USA and Canada use the 5 GHz channel in a way that is not allowed in the EU. Units manufactured for use in the EU use a different 5 GHz channel.

Since the mesh backhaul uses the 5 GHz band, I suspect your two existing units may have selected a channel that your EU unit cannot use, so the setup fails. There isn't really anything you can do about this, apart from return it and buy a unit manufactured and designed for the country/region where it's intended for.

Thank you davidking for your reply, and jeff for following up.

Although this is what I feared, I am not able to return the unit as easily unfortunately. I was wondering if there are any factory reset, reprogramming or other interventions from google that could solve the issue. I understand regulations are different and more stringent in Europe. Maybe there is a way to reprogram the canadian unit to work with the european units and not the other way around. I am of course assuming this is a programming restriction and not an actual hardware difference.

Oh BTW I live now in morocco. I brought the units I had in canada with me. When I needed to upgrade, i purshased the extra point when travelling in europe. This is why I ended up in this situation.

Anything else really that could except returning the unit will be welcome.

Thanks a million

Simply isn't how it works and isn't an option I'm afraid. It has to be this way so the device complies with legal regulations, hence no way to circumvent them.

No thank you for following up.

One question maybe please. Do you know how long I have to return the purshase bought in europe. I am afraid it will be past the return period by the time I find a way to ship it back there.

Thank you
