How do I allow my young teenage children to use Google home and control devices, but restrict access to the wifi control?

You can't currently. It's all or nothing.

A workaround could be to create a Google Home home just for the wifi, where only you are a member. Then a different Google Home home for connected devices. I think that would work at least.

I don't work for Google.

Has anyone tried this solution?

Hi, nvirciglio.

As olavrb said, you can't limit controls to a specific service or device. If they're connected to Home, they'll be accessible. Splitting your network and devices between Home accounts may work to limit control from one account, but management can get a little difficult when accounts are mixed. In some cases, mixed accounts can cause some devices not to show in Home.

Out of curiosity, what level of control do your teenagers need for the devices? Do you just want to allow them to use voice commands with devices, or do you want them to have personalized access?

I would like them to be able to control devices by voice and through the home app. As well as cast to the devices.

I invited them to my SmartThings App to control about 60 % of the devices, but I have about 30 devices that are wifi and are centralized in Google Home.

Hey, nvirciglio.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. As this is something we don't currently support, I will go ahead and pass the suggestion along to our teams as a feature you would like to see added to the product. Thanks for your feedback on that.

As we have our answer, I'm going to go ahead and close the thread, but if anyone has more to add or needs anything else, please feel free to start up a new thread.

Thanks.
