Apple Homepod- Recent Google Home update broke Airplay

Hello,

I purchased the Google Nest Pro mesh wifi and have been pleased overall.

I recently updated the app (Version 3.19.101) and now my Apple Homepod no longer works. I can no longer stream music from my phone to the Homepod. I have tried restarting the network, as well as doing a factory reset on the HomePod. The error message I get is "some features may not work on this network" and that features are "not supported on networks that blcok peer-to-peer communication".

I have tried to see where I can enable peer to peer communication but I cannot find it. I understand that Google and Apple don't like each other, but blocking services seems a bit extreme... It was working for months. Any idea how I can enable this setting?

Thanks

OH MY GOD.

i went and bought a Unifi Cloud Gateway router and Unifi U6+ wireless access point bundle. Set the whole thing up in less than 10 minutes (it had to update firmware).

OH MY GOD.

my google speakers all work flawlessly! No sound as they connect - the music just streams with not a problem!

I honestly cannot remember the last time I had it working as flawlessly like this.

the google wifi pro is going back to the store tomorrow. The google wifi pro is not fit for purpose. I followed all trouble shooting and reset it and devices many many times.

please save yourself frustration and buy something better than this google garbage!

Hi @llhots,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with your Apple HomePod and the error message "some features may not work on this network."

To better assist you, I'd like to ask the following:

  • When did the issue start?
  • How many Google Nest Pro points do you have?
  • Are you using a modem and router combo?
  • What is the model of your mobile device?
  • What app are you using to control the HomePod?
  • Has this issue happened before?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

  • Delete your network from your mobile device and reconnect.
  • Ensure your HomePod is properly connected to the network.

In addition, I recommend you contact the manufacturer for further assistance.

I also apologize, @Bbradford84, for the experience with our Nest products. We're always looking for ways to improve our products, and I encourage you to send feedback. If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Thanks Jennifer for the mention.

google is a very clever enterprise! Surely they can build an algorithm that both assesses frequency, tone and subject of the voluminous dissent in these forums for your faulty products.. surely google can aggregate the subjects of what is failing and turn resources towards fixes and product improvement rather than have you (very lovely people) offer scripted copy paste tech support which ends up no where, and both exasperates and fatigues already upset customers.

As google customers (former in my case), it fails our loyalty to be “put through the wringer” with the substandard support we are getting from the dev teams to push software updates through sooner to fix problems.
