Google Home shows I'm connected to a router that is unplugged

First of all, please ditch the UX pattern here that discourages making a post. Just let people post even if there's already a post about it. I am already frustrated. Geezus.

I'm trying to upgrade my router. I unplugged the old router but Google Home shows my phone is still connected and even says the connection is great. I have rebooted my phone multiple times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Home app. I tried running a mesh test thinking perhaps the app would figure out there is no connection, but it just hangs. What do I have to do to get the home app to refresh so I can connect my new router?

Hi GrrrlRomeo,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

Switching to a new network can be troublesome sometimes, but don't worry, let's see what's going on!

What was your original router model? And can you also let me know if your new router is a Google WiFi, Nest WiFi, or Nest WiFi Pro?

If you want to upgrade to any of these routers and don't plan on using your original router as another mesh network in your home, you'll need to follow this article on how to Remove Google devices from the Google Home app. It would be great if you could also follow this other article on how to Factory reset your WiFi device before unplugging it.

I would suggest configuring your router with a different network name and password. That way, you can delete the old network from your phone's WiFi connections and get a fresh start.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Angel.
