Bought new Google mesh and now have worst speed

Jamstone
Community Member

I bought new Google mesh to replace old Google wifi units and now have even worse speed than before. I have 100mbps connection and my wifi is now down to 20mbps even with the new units. At least with the old units I had 50 mbps. Tried all suggested solutions. Very annoyed!!!

Return the product asap @Jamstone ! We have been waiting for months and years for resolution.. we got a whole army of community specialist that is gathering information but action speaks louder than words here. There is unequivocal proof on this community page that there is a number of us having issues that previously were not issues. Google's software team for Google Wifi cannot be trusted to look after their own products and us as a community. I bought google nest because i wanted something simple and managed by google. It turns out I've effectively gave my data to google to get nothing in return in terms of bug fix even though the community have been crying out for over a year. I regret this purchase and be much more cautious in the future.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. There are a lot of possible reasons for slow speed issues. Could you tell us the troubleshooting steps that you've done so far? Also, if you haven't yet, please try the steps on this link to isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Edward

@EdwardT  - To be very specific - the issue is that when we in this community run the Speed Test on the Google Home App, Google Nest Wifi Router reports a speed test result below the ISP speed tier. A example is: I have subscribed to my ISP's 250Mbps Download / 25 Mbps Upload plan. Yet, the reported speedtest from Google Nest Wifi Router will show 30 Mbps Download / 25 Mbps Upload. This reported result directly impacts all devices connected to the router as speedtest performed on any devices connected to the router will max out at 30 Mbps Download / 25 Mbps Upload instead of the real achievable speed of 250Mbps Download / 25 Mbps Upload.  I would also appreciate that typical standard troubleshooting questions should not be repeated as there are enough postings in this community to indicate that we're not doing silly things to affect the results of the  Google Nest Wifi Router. In other words, we are isolating and testing to remove all variables. The variable that have been confimed time and time again is that the  Google Nest Wifi Router does not report the correct speed test results and there seem to be a correlation between the speed test results and the speed test of devices connected to the router by wifi or by ethernet. In other words, devices connected to the network are not able to achieve the ISP subscribed speed, but rather the speed that is reported by Google Nest Wifi Router.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the honest feedback. I'd love to know more about this. Could you try doing a speed test while directly connected to your ISP modem or router? Just to check if we're going to get at least 80 percent of your subscription speed.

Thanks,

Edward

No need to recheck as I have abandoned Google and changed to D-Link and instantly back to the expected wifi speed.

Google was down to 20mbps download and 26 upload and now system back to 90mbps down load and 30 upload
Just proving that there is a serious problem with the Google nest products.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi millinnium,

I'm just checking in to make sure that you've seen our response. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours.

Thanks,

Edward

Please understand that I've done enough checks and gone through Google's support via twitter to only end up with support wanting to close the ticket as fast as possible. I am getting my subscription speed when connected directly otherwise i won't bother posting here. Nobody in this support forum have actually came forward to acknowledge or identify the issue in Google's Nest wifi software.  That would be a great first step.

This is classic misunderstanding of the issue. It is not that the google nest wifi is slow due to external issues. It is that the Google nest wifi software is limiting the download speed based on the google nest software speed test result. Come on guys!

Totally agree once changing to D-link, the speed for my wifi is now back up to the correct speed, so the issue is certainly in the throttling of the Google wifi. I'm certainly passing on my poor experience with Google to all my friends.

Hi all, after months of frustrating slow speed after the disastrous upgrade from Google and upgrading to the latest Google mesh, I have bitten the bullet and ditched Google and changed to D-link mesh. Wow what a difference, easy setup, great speed, what more can you want. Google has shoot themselves in the foot, which is a pity for what was a great system.
