Cannot add access points to Google WIFI mesh

JLO

I'm attempting to add access points to a Google WIFI mesh:

0) iPhone is connected to the Google WIFI router (via WIFI)

1) reset WiFi point by holding the setup button whilst plugging in power.

2) once reset has been completed, open google home and add device

3) device found

4) scan QR code on device (point)

5) connect to the devices ‘setup’ network

6) Error: “WIFI point does not appear to be connected to the internet”

That is true - I wish to add it to an existing mesh network, but alas this is not possible? It used to work, but since 2022 this is no longer the case.

What is going wrong...?

Are you using the same Google account inside the Google Home app as when the primary point was set up? That's usually the cause (not using a Google a count that can manage the existing primary point). That, or not adding the new point to the same Google Home home as the existing primary.

I don't work for Google.

I have had exactly the same issue this weekend and worked it out today - If you connect to the WiFi the AP generates and press the i beside the name, ensure that the following is all switched off:

  • Low Data
  • Private Wi-Fi Address
  • Limit IP Tracking

I switched it off and they connected to the mesh after that.  Been hours trying to fix it!!!!!!!
