Device not showing up in port forwarding list

vertago1

I have a device connected to a nest wifi pro through a network switch. I have added it to a DHCP reservation which seems to have worked, but the device is missing from the port forwarding list.

Why would the device show up on the dhcp reservation list and not on the port forwarding list? It sounds like either a bug a are design mistake.

This would not be an issue at all if I could manually add the port forwarding rule.

I shouldn't have to hack around limitations in the product to use features that are typically considered basic or fundamental for a consumer network router.

I tried a bunch of things that didn't work:

  • Generating network activity on the device (through ping, running updates, etc) this didn't make any difference
  • Booting ChromeOS flex from a USB drive, verifying the IP address was correct, and visiting 192.168.86.1 which loaded successfully.
  • Restarting the Nest Wifi Pro, restarting the device, restarting the network switch

After counting the number of devices that showed up available for port forwarding and comparing that with the devices that were showing as connected, the only one missing was the one I was trying to add. Given it showed up on pretty much every list except the port forwarding list I finally tried removing it from the DHCP reservation list and it immediately showed up on the port forwarding list, so I added the rules I wanted and then added it back to the DHCP reservation list.

I don't see any reasonable explanation other than there is some kind of bug in how the port forwarding list integrates with the dhcp reservations.

One more additional note. With the port forwarding rule in place, the device shows up on the list of devices to add additional port forwarding rules.

Hello vertago1,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I want to check if you were able to add a port forwarding rule to your device after the Google Home app was updated. If not, please tell me what model of device you are trying to add.

Best,

Lovely

I haven't tried again after I got it to work initially. I had to remove the dhcp reservation before the device showed up on the port forwarding list and then add it back to dhcp reservation.
