People keep submitting this request. When they give up in frustration, Google loses the thread.
Many devices require that your phone be connected to 2.4 ghz network when setting them up. Once they are setup, there is no problem running them on the combined network. Since you cannot force the phone to connect to 2.4, it’s impossible to set up the device.
Even though Google thinks devices shouldn’t require that, many still do. I had to buy a second router to replace my nest WiFi temporarily for these situations, which seems crazy after spending hundreds of dollars on my mesh network.
Why does Google refuse to let me control my own hardware?

Hey Djweisman,
We appreciate your interest, however, we don't have any news to share about a feature that lets you temporarily disable your Google Nest Wifi network's 5 GHz band. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I also suggest that you send feedback by following this link. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns, otherwise I’ll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Best,
Abi
