I would like to download a copy of my Nest WiFi configuration.
Specifically, I'd like to download a file that contains the mapping of MAC addresses to IP addresses to Names that I've setup.
I can't find any easy or obvious way to export it from the Google Home app.
I downloaded my history for both the Home app and the Nest app from takeout.google.com, but I'm still not finding this information.
I did a little digging into the diagnostic dump, and it looks like even inside that file, the MAC addresses have been anonymized to a certain extent. It seems like Google has taken significant steps to preserve privacy by not storing MAC addresses in the cloud, and since diagnostic dumps can be sent to Google for analysis, they are also sanitized. I guess I'm glad to see Google take privacy seriously, but it can make some of the more unusual use-cases like yours more difficult.
Yeah, I don't think my use case is all that unusual. I need to switch out my Nest WiFi router, with a different Nest WiFi router. I want to do so, but without losing any / all of my settings. I've searched around and many people are struggling with this, when upgrading from Google WiFi, to Nest WiFi. In my case, I'm sticking with Nest WiFi, but I want my settings to persist, when I replace my main router.
Not really, other than I hope the Nest WiFi product managers take this as product feedback and feature request and user journey....
As a Nest WiFi administrator, I would like to export my complete network configuration, especially the mappings of MAC addresses to configured named devices, as well as my port mappings and any static leases, in order to more easily replace a device in the future.
This seems like a perfectly reasonable and easy to accommodate request through Google Takeout.
