Everything is labeled as Idle

We are having issues with EVERYTHING connected to our wifi being labeled as Idle despite them being connected to the WiFi. Not to mention being unable to see the devices information. This is massive problem when trying to identify which device is which.

Can we please get some help here?

Hi TiTolbert,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with your Google Wifi system. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

Several things could cause all your Wi-Fi devices to be labeled as "Idle" even though they're connected. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Understanding the meaning of "Idle":

  • "Idle" in some routers or Google Wifi might not necessarily mean "inactive." It could indicate the device isn't actively transferring data at that specific moment but is still connected to the network.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Refresh the Device List:
    1. This can sometimes be a simple fix. Open the Google Home app to manage your Wi-Fi network. Try refreshing the device list or force closing and relaunching the app.
  2. Restart Devices:
    1. A quick restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches. Restart your router and any devices that are showing as "Idle" on your network.
  3. Check Router Settings:
    1. Look for settings related to "device status" or "client list." Ensure these settings accurately reflect actual connections.
  4. Google Home App:
    1. Google Home App Update: Ensure you're running the latest version of the Google Home app on your phone or tablet. Updates often contain bug fixes and improvements related to smart home integrations.

Please check the following articles to View devices connected to your network and review data usage and / or Change connected device name.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
