Google Fiber Mesh nodes

When I changed from a regular GF network box to their mesh device, I was told that it was a "smart" router and would change back and forth between 2.4ghz and 5.0 as it determined was needed.  It does not.  It uses 5.0 ghz only.  None of my smart devices (plugs, bulbs, etc) work.  I think I need a new router (dual band) but I don't know what is supported or what to buy.  GF has been no help.  Can someone please advise me?  TIA.

5ghz has a short range. Use an extension cord and move away from wifi point and you will get 2.4 band and be able to set up but don't go to far.

Hi Rsqwyr,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to know more about this. Are your smart devices already connected to the network but won't switch to 2.4 GHz? You could also click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hello Edward. I saw your response. I did not see a suggestion for a fix. ~Julie (Rsqwyr)
