Google Home Wi-Fi password change design failure

Really disappointed to continue reading and finding out that changing the Wi-Fi password for my Google mesh for security reasons will cause me no end of anguish and lost time factory resetting the approximately 30 Google home devices in my house.

How ironic that almost every other non-google device in my house says “hey I can’t connect. What’s the new password my guy?”
And then proceeded to hop right back on the network with no trouble happy in its old endeavors with a fresh password.

But can Google Wi-Fi tell Google everything else? No.

How hard would it be to have your Google devices? Have a simple can’t connect to network, please enter SSI ID and password page in the connection settings menu that automatically comes up when it loses Internet.?

I have a security issue with my Wi-Fi password now and it’s going to take me a day to reset the entire house because the devices have to all be forgotten and reconnected, also therefore losing any video history for the entire 60 days of any of my cameras

Major design failure here guys.

Whilst I'd agree Google should improve the process required to update the Wi-Fi password on its suite of products, what you're asking for simply isn't possible with current Wi-Fi standards and protocols.

If you change the Wi-Fi network password, there's no industry standard protocol or mechanism for the router to let connected devices know about a new password ahead of time, so that isn't really a design failure of Google Wifi or Nest Wifi I'd suggest.

Agree with you there! I’d encourage you to also send this feedback directly to Google. You will not receive a response, unless Google need more details from you, however the team are still reading the feedback.

Sure that would be wonderful in a perfect world to be able to have Google tell all its devices that there was an updated password. In a non-perfect world, something much more simple would be to allow Wi-Fi settings to be updated on the Google device devices in the home, especially the hubs, which have a display and input device that would allow you to easily change the SS ID or password at any given time instead of factory, resetting etc., etc., etc.
