Google Mesh wifi GEN1 keeps going down

jcrawley578
Community Member

My mesh network worked without issues for about 16 months and then just started to fail. I have performed a factory reset on the mesh network, and power reset my broadband router.

I then performed the setup process a number of times The three nest wifi seem to come online and the white light is showing on all of them,

A speed test shows a good network connection and all three have a strong signal but as soon as i run a mesh test, then all three devices fail and show blue light.

I'm connected now and it's working fine but it will fail soon and throw me off.

Same here. It's CONSTANTLY going down now. I replaced my modem as it was older. That failed to resolve the issue. Neighbors do not report cable wifi going down. I;m at a loss for what to do now. Network is crashing when I am on Zoom calls. About to toss the entire system which I have had for years.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Google Wifi. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • Is the blue light steady or pulsing?
  • Are there any nearby devices that could cause interference?
  • Do you have a modem router combo?

Thanks,

Edward

Lights are steady

Can you clarify what you mean by nearby devices?

Not a modem/router combo--arris modem only. Recently replaced as the first step to try and rectify the issues....to no avail.

Hi cbell619,

Thanks for the response. Physical barriers, such as the construction materials inside a building, are the most likely reason a Wi-Fi signal doesn't penetrate as far as it should such as concrete or metal.

If you haven't yet, please try the steps on this link to isolate the issue.

Thanks,

Edward

Yes, well aware of that having deployed WiFi in concrete buildings for work. Our construction has no concrete or metal -- it's only drywall and wood behind the walls.

Hi,

The Blue light pulses for a while then comes on solid blue. It then goes off and starts to pulse blue again, solid, then off, After a while the white light comes on and the wifi works.

the main hub is close to a TV and one of the hubs stands next to a Sonos speaker. However, this is where they have always been and have worked for 18 months.

At some point the white light goes off and it all starts again

I have a Openreach Fibre modem connected to a BT DSL Home Home. The google mesh hub is wired into the Gbit port.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the response. Occasionally settings don't save properly, or conflicting settings can get stuck in cache. This can be cleared with a simple reboot. Could you try to unplug the Google Wifi from power for 10 to 15 seconds or reboot through the app?

Also, we could try toggling the cloud services off and back on again. Here's how:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Wi-Fi  and then Settings Settings.
  • Tap Privacy Settings.
  • Toggle Nest Wifi cloud services on or off, then tap Save.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi folks,

It's me again. I wanted to check back in to see if you have other questions and concerns. Feel free to let me know if you do.

Thanks,

Edward

Thanks for your   suggestions but nothing worked. I have now bought a TP-Link Nest systems and it works great.

Google Nest was a huge waste of money

Hi jcrawley578,

Sorry we weren't able to get this worked out for you and that it was such a frustrating experience for you. I see you went with a different hardware solution, and I hope that works out well for you going forward. Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else I can do for you at this point?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No, thanks for your help. Google worked great for 18 months and I hope I don't have the same experience with TP-Link. For this type of device, there is no reason why it should just give up working after such a short period of time given there were no changes to the environment.

I've gone for a more expensive solution and I hope to get a few years+ use this time

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Edward,

I'm not sure there was an answer or suggestion how to resolve his issue.

Is this a known issue with Google wi-fi as I've seen an article that seems to suggest it is and that Google have no fix.t

Nothing changed, there is nothing providing interference . Is just stopped working and nothing i do can get it working again.

I'm tinging of buying a more reliable replacement. Got any suggestions?

Regards......

I have the same issue. My wifi points are showing offline every since the .80 and .81 updates. My internet is down and my google nest cameras and other devices are unresponsive and connecting intermittently. @Jeff you've been dawdling and trolling/ pandering this group for an entire year. Get a REAL FIX in motion. Escalate and stop being misleading that you're doing everything to help and only looking to chime in from time to time and close out the issue unresolved.
