Google Nest Router & Switches

Hi Guys,

I recently upgraded to a Google Nest Router + 3 x Mesh Points.  Our house is Cat5 wired to office stations, so I would like to use the LAN where possible of which is difficult with the Nest Router having just one LAN port.

My ISP connection is in my garage where I have located the Nest Router.  Using the LAN port I have connected it to a 10 port switch within the garage also.  This gets me access to some of our security and garden light features at the front of the house.

Now we have a media room at the back of the house approximately 20 metres from the garage and this is the hub for all Cat5 wiring in the house.  I have daisy chained from the Garage switch to another switch located in the media room, and this feeds the rest of the house.

When connected this way, my wifi lasts for approximately 10 minutes and then it drops out.  When I unplug the Media room switch, mesh wifi is strong and solid.

Connection:

ISP Internet Box > Google Nest Router > TP-Link TL-SG1210MP Switch > Netgear GS208 Switch

Amount of devices connected to each switch:

TP-Link TL-SG1210MP Switch = 4

Netgear GS208 Switch = 7

Appreciate any assistance. Cheers

Mario.

I have a very similar arrangement myself, I run a cable from my Nest router's LAN point into an 8-port switch, and one of those points i run a cable up the other end of my house to another 5-port switch which I used to hardwire my main PC in the study.  Both of my switches are dumb little Tenda devices and it works perfectly.  I can't imagine why having two switches hard wired into your Nest wifi setup would have any impact on your wifi.  Is there any chance that something connected to your Netgear switch is interfering with wifi?

You could try using a wifi analyzer app on your phone to see your Nest wifi's 2.4 and 5ghz signal and channel, initially with your Netgear unplugged.  Then plug the Netgear back in and see if anything changes in the app, especially when the wifi drops out?  If you work it out please report back here 'coz i'm really curious as to what this might be.
