Hi All,
Does anyone experience also issues with the google NEST Wifi Set-Up.
I think by now the issues have started like a month or a couple of weeks ago. I believe they must have received some kind of update. Ever since the update it seems like not all websites are accessible anymore.
Some websites seems unreachable. Switch is giving connectivity issues when trying to check for updates.
Cloud gaming with the XBOX does not seem to work anymore.
even Imessage. when someone sends over a message via imessage, it works, when someone is sending a picture, it refuses to open.
Websites like help.sap.com seem to geve the following error: (via tablet: server not responding ) ( via laptop: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN )
my set-up: i have a router of the internet provider. Next to this i have 4 nest wifi routers (3 of them acting as bridges, with the wired backbone)
How do i know that it is the nest Wifi causing this? because when i connect directly to the wifi of my internet provider, everything works seamless.
What did i try: change the DNS settings ( to internet provider, to fixed ones ) does not seem to help.
Rebooting both internet provider router and Google Nest Mesh (does not help)
Full factory reset and re-install of the google mesh ( does not seem to help either )
Made by google support on messenger mentions they need time, but it is over 2 weeks now, and it stays quite on their end.

I have exactly the same problem, started last week. Most of the web pages I use for work give me errors (could not connect), when I go though another wifi there is no problem loading them. Full factory reset did not help either.

Is the ISP router in bridge mode, so you don't run double NAT?
Have you tried disabling IPv6 on Nest Wifi inside the Google Home app? It could make a difference, so worth trying.

Thanks for the tips.
disabling ipv6 does not work. I tried this as well as the upnp.
as for the isp it is impossible to put their modem/router in bridge mode. So in my case indeed there is a double NAT. But this should not be a problem. At least is was not a problem before…

Just tried the ipV6 disabling again. Under the term better try it out twice then be sorry, but it did not fix it 😕

I have 4 routers that. 3 of them are in bridge mode.
all of them are connected via cable.
I must say the moment I added 4 it als felt quite unstable. Lot of offline messages received for the separate units. But everything always worked.

Do you have those three in actual bridge mode ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6240987?hl=en ) or do you mean wired backhaul ( https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7215624?hl=en )?
How did you wire them up, daisy chain (works but not recommended) or an unmanaged/ dumb switch? A managed/ smart switch is not recommended and can cause problems.

The main router is connected from the Telenet ( router isp ) directly in the Wan port ( the one with the globe icon )
from the lab port it then connects to a switch: GS-108SV2-GB0101F ( zyxel )
from there multiple cables are going to 3 other nest WiFi routers. They are connected via the wan port only.

Sounds like this switch has some features that might conflict with stuff that the main Nest Wifi puck does, like "port based qos" and flow control.
I'd try a plain, simple, unmanaged switch if I were you, like a Netgear GS108 or TP-Link SG108.

Thanks for the info. However it worked before with the same set-up so something must have been changed on google side.
also when I did a reset I also tried out with only 2 units. Connected via WiFi, but the issue was already happening then. ( so even before there was a switch in place )

Hi Mel,
that will be a challenge. (MacBook Air. MacBook Pro only have usbc ports ) all other devices are tablets or phones. Let me think if I can figure something out. Keep you updated
10-05-2022 01:22 PM
So I tried out something ☺️
I used the Xbox which has a lan connection. The help of Xbox x is also not working via google nest WiFi
so this is what I tried:
xbox - google nest WiFi : fail
xbox - Telenet (isp) WiFi : success
xbox - lan nest WiFi router ( bridge ) + switch : fail
xbox -lan nest WiFi router ( main router ) + switch : fail
Xbox - lan nest WiFi router ( main router ) + without switch : fail
Xbox - lan nest Telenet (isp) router + switch : succes
Xbox - lan nest Telenet (isp) router + without switch : succes
so all arrows again pointing at the nest WiFi set-up regardless of WiFi or lan connection. Regardless with or without switch in between.

I just came back from vacation hoping it would have been solved by now, but the problem still exists. I still cannot open certain company specific websites with my corporate devices when connecting to the Google WiFi router, so I need to connect directly to my router (this is a Telenet router, I think SDEB also has a Telenet router)...
10-24-2022 06:08 AM
Yes correct. You can try to put dns settings in the google router on manual ( or adjusted ) ( turn off IPV6 )
first IP = ip Telenet router
second ip the Telenet DNS IP. This solved it for me for the moment. But I will call Telenet somewhere during this week as well to see what they can do on DNS caching side.
10-24-2022 06:27 AM
Hi SDEB, not sure where I can find these, and hesitant to change these as I have a lot of connected devices. So do you think this is a Telenet issue?

To change the DNS settings, click this link. After all this, contact your service provider to double check your connection.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi Jenifer,
just a open question. Any chance that I could receive a test set-up of the new nest WiFi-pro to see if the issue is solved on this version? I could also share my experiences with it.

Hey there,
As this is a Community forum, I'm afraid we can't fulfill your request.

Google support finally reached out too me, but it’s a strange issue.
what they found out is that it seems the Nest Router has troubles with the DNS. If I fix DNS up adressen on the connected devices it all works fine, when I set my connected devices to automatic, google nest has issues. Also when dns IP addresses are fixed within the router it does not seems to work, like the router is ignoring this.

Hi SDEB,
Thanks for the update. I suggest continuing the conversation there to avoid confusion.
Best,
Mel

Hi SDEB, I still have an older version of the router, but when I use it on a newer version (not the latest) it seems to work...
10-23-2022 02:46 PM
We have reached some progress
at this moment the DNS on the google router is set to manual settings. Where first IP is the IP of the iSP router. Second ip is DNS ip of the isp. This seems to have solved the issue is far. All devices needed a reboot though and it seems not everything is as performant, but this needs to be checked with the ISP as well.
will post an update once I know more from that side.
10-28-2022 08:04 AM
Hi SDEB, I just bought a new google wifi router (not the latest pro because it is not compatible with my wifi points) and the issue still remains. I would like to try your solution, but I do not know where to find these IPs... can you help?
10-29-2022 12:04 PM
Hi All, an update on my side.
telenet has performed a reset upon my router, the issue was not resolved.
and even more strange behavior my parents have the same set-up but an older Telenet router there everything works seamlessly.
so Telenet will have some clarification to do.
10-29-2022 12:11 PM
Hi SDEB,
Thanks a lot for the information. I suggest you contact Telenet to know more about it. Generally speaking, our Nest WiFi routers still rely heavily on your ISP and your modem/router or gataways functions and features. It still needs a source to work. Once you had your talk with Telenet, kindly tell us about it so that we would know what the next steps to take.
Keep us posted.
Best,
Dan
