Google Nest Wifi dropping out on my NordicTrack Treadmill

Darklccdr

I recently bought a Nordictrack Treadmill 2950 and connected it to my Google Nest Wifi.  Works great but after 2-10mins the video goes black.  I have watched the connection on my phone Google Home app while I run and the upload/download just dies after a short while.  When I connect my Nordictrack to my iphone hotspot it works fantastic, full workout, video never drops.  I have run out of data on my phone and now back to trying to figure out how to get my Google Nest Wifi to work with this device.  I have researched that the treadmill works best on 2.4ghz but cannot figure out in the Google Home App how to make the connection just 2.4ghz.  Please help!

One can't seperate 2.4ghz and 5ghz with Nest Wifi, but all modern Wi-Fi devices should handle this themselves.

Does the threadmill have an ethernet/ RJ45 port? If so, try using cable instead.

Does the threadmill have the ability to update its firmware? Maybe the manufacturer has released a fix?

Else, I'd either ask the manufacturer for support. Or consider buying a cheap access point that can send 2.4ghz only for one SSID, connect it to Nest Wifi by cable.

Edit: Found your Reddit thread (for context):

I don't work for Google.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the reply, yeah I tried on Reddit and got some good responses,  none of them worked but I have not tried buying a separate wifi router as I have read that I will not work when I plug it into the Google Nest Wifi router?  It has to be a Google wifi or Google nest product to work?  Which I don’t think Google sells just the 2.4ghz points.

edit: I did call Nordictrack about it and they had me take apart the machine and live video chat through the whole thing, they were super nice but we never found anything wrong.  I told them I think it’s the lack of compatibility but not sure if they listened.  There was a patch last week but didn’t fix that issue.  I dont think there are enough of us with this dual band “device isn’t smart enough” issue for them to fix it yet.

Hi Darklccdr,

Thanks for the reply. You could use a 3rd party router upstream to the Google WiFi router. You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Thanks Edward I may have to give that a go.

Update, I stumbled on something while on my Windows 10 desktop.  I can make a wifi hotspot from my desktop and I can make it 2.4ghz only.  Two workouts completed, video streamed the whole time off the desktop wifi, the only issue was it doesn’t upload to iFit at the end it just spins but honestly I’m just happy I had the workout video the whole time.  It’s a start….
