Google WIFI SLOW

rpint
Community Member

I have 1 Gig from ISP spectrum, through the wired test I get that using speedtest. However, my Wi-Fi connection's are 1-2 hundred megs. I seem to lose my bandwidth when using the google Wi-Fi. I have tried many different devices, same result. I did the test mesh and all say Great connections. I have 4 google pucks.

This is a little disappointing.

Hello rpint,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

SO i now get 250-300 Mbits per connected wifi device. So it is better, BUT, not the 1Gig I get from the modem. What is the max rate expected from a google wifi puck?

Cheers

Hi again,

It's normal not to get the full speed from your modem since you have several devices connected to the network. I'd like to check in if there are still any issues with the speed. Feel free to reply to this thread and let me know.

Best,
Abi

Hi there,

Google Wifi device has a capable speed of:

  • 2.4 GHz - 300 Mbps
  • 5 GHz - 867 Mbps

Note that these are max speeds in a perfect environment (no congestion, interference, etc.). For other information about its technical specifications, you can check this link.

Kind regards,
Alex
