Google Wi-Fi as a point

Davcarr

I purchased 3 google nest Wi-Fi units because t-mobile stated that a minimum of two were required. How do I setup a second google nest Wi-Fi as a point and must the second Wi-Fi be hardwired? When I attempted to set Wi-Fi as point it is added to google home but won’t connect. Need help!

One pod needs to connect to your broadband router/modem via one of the two ethernet ports (the WAN port (with the globe icon) is a logical choice. This becomes the "router".

The other two can be left to connect to the router wirelessly or via ethernet (if that is an option for you). You can have one wireless and the other wired. The wireless one(s) have to be "close enough" to the router for them to connect.

I'd recommend powering on just one of the pods (the one you'll use as a router). Get that configured in the Google Home App, then power (& plug into ethernet if that is how you're going to go) the 2nd, get that configured in the app. Then do the third. Best not to have all 3 powered on when you're starting.

I was having the same frustrating issue. I went through the factory reset, network reset, etc. What ended up working is setting up the second wifi point in the same spot (hardwired via ethernet) as the first point, including the QR code reading etc. Once that was connected, I unplugged it and put the original unit back. After that, I had no problem connecting the second unit using google home as a second point. Hope this helps!
