Google WiFi 4G+ LTE Internet Connection (double router issue)

I have had several Google WiFi v1 mesh points up and running beautifully for about 4 years now with very few problems, but a recent internet upgrade has me stumped.

We’ve had a 4G+ LTE cellular connection put in (getting 100Mbps+) which uses a TP-Link Archer MR600 as the 4G modem.  However, I can’t figure out a way to get this playing nicely with the Google WiFi.  If I connect the 4G router to the WAN port of the primary google wifi point I get no internet connection.

I have managed to turn off DHCP on the 4G router and get it connected to my existing google network by assigning it a static IP address within the Google WiFi subnet (ie 192.168.86.x) but the internet connection doesn’t work, presumably because the Google WiFi primary isn’t aware that the internet connection can be found at IP address 192.168.86.x.

Any ideas / tips gratefully received. I know I could use the TP link as my primary router but I really don’t want to as I understand many of google wifi advantages would be lost this way.

Thanks in advance,

Aljrob

Hi, Aljrob.

I'm sorry for the issues you're having getting your WiFi setup working properly. I'm sure it's frustrating to have things not working correctly. Let's see what we can do to work the issue out.

Looking at your setup, the double router situation might be causing some connection interruptions. You have mentioned some troubleshooting you have already gone through to work with that. Thanks for giving me that context. When more than one router is used, however, we do run into issues with double NAT. Here's a guide for working around those challenges: https://bit.ly/3k7Hhmv

There are two different methods mentioned in that article. I would suspect that bridge mode would be necessary in your situation, but make sure to try both to see what gives you the best experience.

If this doesn't get things working correctly, please come back and let me know and we can look at additional steps. Thanks.

Hi, everyone.

As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.

Thanks
