Hello,

I am using google WiFi gen 1. My setup is configured as following…

1. My internet provider supply me with his router with WiFi in built.

2. I plugged in the google WiFi master router via Ethernet cable to ISP provided router.

3. I am using WiFi network generated from google WiFi routers.

my problem is that when I connect to google router through WiFi I get half download speed and full upload speed. But when I connect ISP’s router directly, I get full download and upload speed.

I am not far away from both routers. Both sit side by side. My main problem is that google WiFi routers reducing the download speed. Upload is smooth.

why???

please help!

Hi Maroofzaidi,

Thanks for posting and sorry for the delay ― let's get this sorted.

Give these steps a whirl:

  1. Make sure that the modem is set to bridge mode. You can contact your ISP for that.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  5. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  6. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hi Maroofzaidi,

Sorry for the delay. I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks,
Mel

Thanks for the follow up Mel

i tried to follow your steps but when I put custom DNS you suggested, everything stop working. I tried it in both of my routers (ISP’s and Google).
good news is that without any further tweaks I am getting full speed most of the times. Problem is there but it appears sometimes. I think I can work with this.
thank you again for the replies and follow up on your efforts.

regards

Hey Maroofzaidi,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed and sorry for the delay. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Best,
