Hi,
My main Nest Wifi point is connected via LAN to my router. This used to be a 1000mbps connection and Google Home would time my speeds to almost 1GBit up/down on fiber. Since two weeks, my internet speeds have dropped to 1/10th of that. First I thought there was a problem with my provider, but after extensive troubleshooting, everything seems to be fine but the router reports that the Nest Wifi point is connected with 100mbps.
It seems that the latest firmware is from late last year so there has been no software change on the Wifi point. I've restarted it but it reconnects on 100mbps. Why would it suddenly switch to 100mbps? I haven't changed the cable or anything else...

Hello @jvdb
This does sound like a cable issue. For the connection to negotiate and hold 1Gbps speed, it has to have all four twisted pairs connecting properly. Otherwise, it falls back to using one pair and 100Mbps. I would try removing the current Ethernet cable and reseating it firmly on both ends. If that doesn't fix it, you can try replacing it with a new Cat 5e cable – should only be a few dollars. If that doesn't fix it, I would start to be concerned about the Ethernet port on one end or the other having gone bad. But, try the other two steps before jumping to that conclusion.

Hello jvdb,
I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?
Kind Regards,
Alex
