Mesh wifi pro 6e and bt home hub 5

I am interested in Mesh pro 6e. But I read that I need to set my isp router into bridge mode to avoid duplicate NAT problems. But my bt home hub doesn't allow me to set it to bridge mode. Is there a solution to this? It might be I have misunderstood the situation so happy to be put right

Nest Wifi is designed to replace your ISP router. If your ISP supports it, you can often connect your primary Wifi point directly to the incoming line or modem.

If your ISP doesn't support that, and you need to keep your ISP provided router, you'd only need to look at putting it in bridge mode if you experience issues as most users don't experience any performance problems with double NAT.

If needed, you can put Nest Wifi into bridge mode instead but that only works if you only need 1 Wifi point, and are not looking to have multiple Wifi points to create a mesh Wifi network.

Dear Alex,

I'm not sure that the answers from David King apply in my case but I am no expert. First, my BT connection is not true fibre. It is fibre to green cabinet then telephone wire. I believe it is adsl connection. Can  Google mesh pro 6e will connect as an adsl modem? If I need to keep the bt home hub router then I understand this unit cannot be put in bridge mode. So I will then have potentially problems with double nat. It does seem to me that my situation must be quite common so maybe I need to bite the bullet and try. I seem to recall a solution being to switch off the wifi on the bthub so the only wifi signal is that coming from the google mesh units. Does that make sense?

Look forward to your comments

Hello Reff,

Google Nest Wifi Pro can’t be connected as an ADSL modem.

Google Wifi devices such as Google Nest Wifi Pro were programmed to work on all types of router. However, if we experience a slow connection, or intermittent connectivity, that’s when we fix the Double NAT issue — which requires the bridge mode. If your BT Home Hub 5 doesn’t support bridge mode, you may want to ask your internet provider if they can provide another version of the router.

Alex
