Google Wifi as Extender?

Daanosaur

Unable to contact support currently so I'm hoping someone here has an answer.

I purchased the Google Wifi basic device to use as an extender/mesh device, but the instructions only let me set it up as a basic router hardwired into my modem or current router. I found how to configure it that way with a second google router but I was really hoping I could get it to work with the ASUS I currently have, because my nest floodlight camera has a lot of concrete & brick between it and my router and goes offline periodically.

Any suggestions on how to make this work or does the Google wifi not support this?

No, Nest Wifi will only wirelessly connect to a master Nest Wifi in router mode. Like Asus AiMesh won't wirelessly mesh with anything but Asus. Same with TP-Link Deco, Netgear Orbi.

Wireless mesh is kind of similar to what a wireless repeater does, but it's not the same.

Some mesh systems, TP-Link Deco for instance, supports expanding an existing network while being set to bridge mode, but one of the units must be wired to an existing router. Nest Wifi does not support wireless mesh in bridge mode.

I don't work for Google.
