Google mesh speeds don't make sense!

Community Member

So I have just changed internet provider and now have a 1gb line . I just changed the router box and plugged the google nest mesh router into the new router provided by the new provider  ( sky ) . When I run a speed test on the google display its saying that my download speed is 900mbps ( which is great ) but when I run speed tests on my phone / MacBook / iPad etc I'm getting between 150 - 200mbps and sometimes worse!

On my last provider it was a 500mbps line and I was getting 400ish when I ran a speed test on the google mesh and devices were getting 400+

can't figure out why this is happening  - not sure if its a google problem or an issue with the ISP

Anyone ?

Hey reserved,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into on the primary and on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

Let us know how it goes.
