Google wifi notification of new device

I understand that google wifi can notify me when new device connects, I'm looking to be notified when a particular device connects. How does it notify me for instance through a push notification and does it list the device name or Mac address.  I want to use it with IFTTT for automaton like when I come home connect to fiwi then with IFTTT can turn on lights

Hi, trickyrick.

I'm not aware of a command or functionality to notify of a specific device connection. You might be able to create some automation through setting up routines with your Assistant. There are lots of options and triggers for creating automation through routines. Here's an article on how those work: https://bit.ly/34nAqgy.

If you don't see a solution there for what you're looking to do, let me know and we can see what we can come up with for you.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay.  In the settings for Google WiFi there is a setting for notifications but even if it's on  I get nothing.  I'm using an android phone when a device connects am I suppose to get a push notification or only in the Google home app

Hey, trickyrick.

Have you still not migrated your network management to the Home app? If you're still using the WiFi app to manage the network, you might be limited in a few ways.

I'm using Googles Home app.  I used it to install and to program Google WiFi

Hey, trickyrick.

Sorry for the long delay on a reply here. I've done some digging and I'm not able to find a way to automate what you're looking for exactly as you have it described. Playing around with routines in the Home app and with your Assistant settings are going to be the best way to approximate this, but device connection triggers aren't a current function. I could definitely suggest that to our internal teams on your behalf, however.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks.
