GoogleNestPoint Connection problem during setup check password

I have a 3 point Nest Wifi.  1 hub, 2 points. I have factory reset my hub multiple times after various problems.  In this latest problem I have one Nest Point that is not able to complete the setup.  The error message I receive is:

Connection problem during setup

GoogleNestPoint**** could not connect to <my nest wifi uuid> - please check your password.

I've tried factory reset of the point multiple times, the problem persists. I don't really get how I'm supposed to 'check your password' 🤷‍♂️

The 2nd point joins the mesh ok and devices can connect ok when within range.

Though, asides from this problem, my Pixel 6 Pro phone is not able to connect to the WiFi on either the point or hub! It just connected and immediately disconnects with no error.

I have owned Nest Wifi for less than a year and it's plagued with issues.  I'm close to returning it for a refund or just throwing it into a river to save my sanity.

If there's any other suggested solution that doesn't involve 'reset' is some sort I'm interested to hear it.

You are sure it's properly factory reset when trying to set it up? The light should pulsing blue:

Factory reset instructions:

You could try to set it up from a different Android, iOS or iPadOS device with the Google Home app. You could also try to set it up using the setup key, instead of scanning the QR.

I don't work for Google.

According to the docs I'm seeing the right lights for a successful factory reset.  The Blue you mention is not related to my points.

I've tried using both QR code and the code inscribed on the bottom of the points.

I've gone through the entire factory reset and setup process on multiple Android devices and an iPad.

Just now, after another round of reset and setup, 2 days later my 2 points have inexplicably dropped off the mesh and started pulsing yellow!

These things are borked.

Hi folks,

@olavrb, thanks for the help!

@papaya, thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with setting up your Google Wi-Fi devices. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • Who's your ISP?
  • What is the status of the light on the primary Wi-Fi point?
  • Does the child point broadcast the setup SSID located at the bottom of the unit?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
