Help with Settings

Due to a poor wifi signal having fitted a Mains powered Nest Doorbell and Two Floodlight Security Camera, I installed the 3 Google Mesh Wifi extenders to boost the home coverage. I seem to be getting a conflict, as my setup now has two Router points shown on my home Network. Originally our two home iPhones, two iPads and a desktop were fine. The three new extenders have their dedicated Network situated in three adjoining rooms to connect to the ext Google Security Services. My Original Broadband Router is out of sight in another adding room. My iPhone in order to check Activity, has to be assigned to the 2nd Google Network, which it does as a priority Default. But I then need to select my original Network in order to get a better Phone signal (enabling Wifi calling and Internet services.

Does there need to be two different access points, having allowed the Google setup to link into the Original Network, or can they be merged under the same?

We don't have Google Wi-Fi, so I can't help you. But you might want to edit your post and change the title to something more precise, like "Help with Settings for Google Mesh Wifi" to see if other customers then notice your post.

Dear Lovely M.
I’m now finding that the Google Home App is often crashing. It does advise that it’s sent a Fault log for investigation or so the Error message “tells me”? !
Now today the mains twin Floodlight Camera turned itself off.

Thirdly, whilst away from home today, the App didn’t  show the correct Status, that I’m “Away” from Home. Surely with GPS Location tracking switched on, the System was meant to turn the Cameras on if they were left off originally?
When wanting to access the “recorded History of either Camera, the onscreen operation is a different process in its design layout.
When wishing to view certain timed Recordings from my logged History, often the replay for various recordings is not available to view, Why?
My vieŵ is that the Google Package is not “Fit for Purpose” under UK Consumer Law! I therefore consider that Google should stop charging me a fee for their Online Video Service, until the product is working 100%.

Hello Harriflex16,

Thanks for posting in our Community. I’m sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this. No worries; let’s check it out.

For your Google Home app, let’s make sure it is up-to-date.

  1. Check for any iOS updates.
  2. Uninstall the Google Home app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app.
  3. After reinstalling the app, check if it fixes the crashes and the Home/Away routines.

Just to confirm, for your Nest Cam with Floodlight, did the camera turn off? Or were they the two floodlights? If it was the floodlights, check out this handy guide to Change floodlight settings. Otherwise, check the power going to the camera.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Lance

Hello everyone,

I appreciate you trying to help, @MplsCustomer.

@Harriflex16, thanks for reaching out. It looks like you have double NAT which means there are two routers (the original network and the Google Nest Wifi network) that run at the same time in your house. You can fix this by turning your ISP-provided modem-router on bridge mode, which disables the original network. However, before you do this, you can check with your ISP first since it might turn off your WiFi calling. For more information, check out this article.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Lovely

Good morning, I am waiting further advice re switching their Router/modem to Bridge mode. We don’t make use of gaming as mentioned in the article. I simply want to use my iMac that has to be connected by Wifi. Also the Mesh extenders were planned to enable the Nest Heating Thermostat, mains wired Doorbell camera and an exterior mains wired Security camera and floodlights on the outer wall of the computer room where there is the 3rd Mesh Wifi. The Setup videos made it all sound so simple for a home user. However it’s tuned out to be a nightmare. Google need to have better detailed instructions for their products!

Hello LovelyM,

Thankfully my ISP has stepped in to assist and have made the adjustments in their Broadband Router. All is now working within reason, but occasionally the mains wired Doorbell is slow to respond about 6-7 second delay in the Visitor Announcement. If I want to switch off the two cameras whilst we are working in the garden, again the Doorbell camera stalls showing the dreaded spinning Blue wheel. I’m surprised also that the two units when viewing the App to show History/Setting, don’t have an identical procedure in the software design, I don’t understand the logic in it being a different process.

Hey Harriflex16,

I just want to verify if you are using the same model of wired Nest Doorbells. I'll check this with our Nest Doorbell team, as I'm unfortunately not trained for the said devices. For now, please share with me the phone and the Google Home app that you are using as well so I can take a closer look into what's going on.

Regards,
Lovely

Good morning LovelyM,

Since my last post I have now added a fourth Mesh wifi extender, to spread the wifi signal in my small single storey property. "Utility Warehouse" my UK ISP have disabled their router wifi, so my signal is now received by the Google Mesh, via the main UW modem. The download speed in my area is adequate as is the Mobile coverage. At least the doorbell response is faster, but with a 3" delay. It has been disappointing that Google don't give more appropriate detailed instructions for the initial installation, it certainly has had its frustrations. I chose the products in the belief it was the major trusted brand name, so I hope they can resolve the countless software crashes that are being reported.
