How do I route traffic from Google Subnetwork to Primary Network

mural315

Background info:

I recently moved into a new townhome with many floors and had AT&T fiber installed as the primary ISP (Google Fiber not available).   At the recommendation of AT&T, we installed the Google/Nest Wifi to create a mesh network on the upper floors since the wifi simply wouldn't reach where it needed to.

The question and problem:

How do I setup the Google subnetwork to allow traffic to route to AT&T network--the Google wifi router is plugged into the Wifi network?    There are devices hardwired on the AT&T network that require traffic to/from the Google wifi subnet.

ATT Router:  192.168.1.X

Google Wifi Network (subnetwork):   192.168.68.X

Hello @mural315

The Nest WiFi Router unit you have installed is a router+firewall that creates a new "inner" network inside the "outer" network created by your AT&T router+firewall. As such, there are limits on how transparent the connectivity between these networks can be. Devices on the inner Nest WiFi network can connect to devices on the outer network (as well as the internet via that outer network), but will not be able to automatically "discover" them. Devices on the outer AT&T network will not be able to discover or connect to devices on the inner Nest WiFi network without opening explicit port mappings. A simpler setup would be to have the Nest WiFi Router unit be the only thing connected to that outer network and then connect all devices (wired and wireless) to the same inner Nest WiFi network. That may require re-thinking how you have things placed, and you may need to purchase one or more inexpensive, unmanaged Ethernet switches to make enough ports available, depending on how extensive your wired network is.
